‘Human rights violation’ as campaigners say prisoners are locked up for 24 hours a day

Campaigners say prisoners are being held in their cells for 22-24 hours a day. They say this is a human rights violation which could have long-term impacts on the mental health of inmates and could have a negative impact on rehabilitation and on society when prisoners are released.

The MoJ said: “Our decisive action has saved the lives of thousands in custody during the pandemic.”
